Introduction from the guest editor M. Auer

The workshop 'Interactive Computer aided Learning - ICL 99' has been successfully hold in Villach, Austria on the 7/8 October 1999, as a follow up of last year's ICL 98. This year 46 participants from 11 European countries including 22 authors contributed to the success of the workshop. The ICL workshops are designed as interdisciplinary workshops that aim to focus on the exchange of relevant trends and up-to-date research results as well as the presentation of practical experiences gained while developing and testing elements of interactive computer aided learning. This year's orientation was 'Trends and Applications' involving specific topics such as Tele-learning / Tele-teaching, Authoring Tools, Tools for Interactive Learning and Teaching Mathematics, ...'.
ICl 99 was organised by the Carinthia Tech Institute, School of Electronics in accordance with partners from Germany and Switzerland and was supported by

  •  European Distance Education Network (EDEN)
  •  International Society for Engineering Education (IGIP)
  •  Workgroup APS-PC of VDE and GI.

It was further assessed by the participants as a workshop of 'high standard', providing 'a high number of constructive discussions' in a 'very agreeable work atmosphere'. Consequently, the ICL will again be organised in Sept./Oct. 2000. If you are interested in the workshop preceedings (98-book, 99-CD) please contact (M.Auer@ACM.org).
